It is obvious to me you have a lot of poker experience, I've really only played No Limit Texas Hold'em on line. I would have to agree that with no tangible risk the benefits are usually less then if one was putting in more value. The serious poker players will tend to play the money games and those trying to find information or trying the game of poker for the first time will check out the free games. Unfortunately the free games don't give you a good idea of what is going on in the money games. Archangel (Alias: Warren. J. Hayashi.)

It is a weekly ritual with me— I retrieve some Chinese food, bring it home, remove the accessory egg roll from the bag, and place the roll aside to be thrown out with the trash. Somewhere, there has to be an enormous mountain of uneaten egg rolls that I feel personally responsible for. The egg rolls just do nothing for me. I don’t like them, and they don’t enhance my overall Chinese-food experience in any way. It’s one of many examples in life where a perceived extra actually contributes no practical benefit. But just as there are people who do, in fact, enjoy egg rolls, there are players who revel in the faux-competitive world of free online poker. To these people, I offer the following salvo:

Free online play is common to probably all online poker sites. There is an opening play-money balance for you as soon as you sign up as a new player. There are play money tables and free poker tournaments for you...

Egg rolls
Very insightful! I definitely agree that the factor of no implied risk detracts from the "realism" of freeroll tournaments, but I still think that they are fun, and that they are a great way for players to practice "table stamina", as they can go on for hours and hours. And hey...I like egg rolls, send them my way!

I have to agree and disagree with you
First of all, let me say I really enjoyed reading this article. I love the story about your friend Larry and how his unorthodox strategy led to second place and $9K. Second, I have to agree with you on some level because I cannot play free poker. It drives me out of my mind. It isn’t real poker because, as you experienced first hand recently, many “free poker” players will throw any amount of money at any hand or no hand at all. I learned the hard way (or expensive way) and I like to think I’m s

full tilt poker is in my opinion totally crooked
has any one else noticed that full tilt poker ( at least on their free version) has rigged theri system to almost always give the pot to the higher stack in all in situations.....i would guess this saves them main frame capacity or band with ....it really makes one wonder about the integrity of playing poker on line...i have played a ton on full tilt ( like the graphics ) but have noticed the pattern forever ....the larger stack sucks out from behind in all in situations by about 500% more than
