Comment: Good advice for more than starting players

I really liked the “Online Poker Room Advice for Starting Players” article. I think it could benefit players who have been competing online to review some of the basics. I’ve been playing online for a few years and still have to remind myself of the basics. I guess some people aren’t embarrassed when they make a stupid move when playing online. But believe me, my cheeks have been so red I could see them reflected in my monitor. The worst is hurrying for the fold button and accidentally hitting the call button with an awful hand. Do you tell your opponent you’re an idiot and didn’t mean to go all in with a 2h 3d (if you happen to stay in long enough to say anything)? Or do you just let them think you’ve lost your mind? I usually go with the latter, since it keeps them guessing. I love watching people “go on tilt”. I don’t ever try to instigate another player to lose it. Most of the players I see playing mad are big bluffers who have finally been called. The next thing you know they are going all in with seven, four unsuited. It may be cruel on my part, but there is some satisfaction in seeing a bully come unglued. The interesting part is they often paint the other player into a corner, where they have no choice other than to call them on the bluff. Then they fume and vent about how the other player never should have called that hand. Someone should tell them - there is no crying in poker!

There are many strategies that people use when playing in online poker rooms and there are many poker room tips to be learned by the novice player. We will focus primarily on Texas holdem poker tips. These poker room tips are primarily for dealing with the nuances of online play rather than poker room tips for face-to-face play. The poker room tips would be slightly different if they were for face-to-face games instead of online poker rooms.

One of the best poker room tips that I can offer is to be patient with your game play. This is true whether playing in online poker rooms or face-to-face, but even more so with Internet play. Poker room tips tell us that players are more apt to go all in and make seemingly silly bets when playing online because if they lose they are not embarrassed for making a bad move. Poker room tips suggest that if you, as the novice player, remain patient and wait until you have a very good hand you are more likely to win. Along these same lines, other po...

Don't be afraid to wait
This article offers some good practical advice regarding the patience needed to succeed in hold'em games. However, as most of already know, this is often easier said than done. Especially at lower level limit games and no-limit tournaments, no fold-em hold'em seems to be the name of the game. The old saying goes, any 2 will do. So if you're in a limit game and it seems like everyone is playing every pot -- and they will -- don't fall into the trap of the "when in Rome" philosophy. Play quality s
